I really really really really really (really) encourage you to go to pedalshift.net rather than this page. Lots more bike touring, bicycle touring, adventure cycling, bikepacking... whatever we're calling it these days... there.

Dec 27, 2018

The annual Pedalshift Holiday Spectacular is a  year-end chat with Aaron and Guthrie from The Sprocket Podcast on the best things in biking and the podcast, a chat about traversing the Darien Gap plus looking forward to 2019.

Housekeeping

  • Podcast sponsor slots are available starting in the new year... check out pedalshift.net/sponsor for more info
  • Next week is a best of episode featuring friend of the show Michael Riscica on crossing the US by bike
  • January is the furthest thing from slow... we have some interviews lining up, a winter tour announcement (yes!) and a couple of great events if you're in the DC-area with a Pedalshift flavor!
  • If you remember back this summer we chatted with Analisa and Erik from Miles of Portraits (episode 122). Well they took that cool 1000 mile Alaskan tour project and made a film and a magazine out of it, and they're touring the US showing the results starting January 9th in Cranston, RI.
  • I'll be MCing and helping out the Q&A for the two DC-area events... Tyson's REI on 1/22 and DC REI on 1/24. Both are 6:30-8:30pm. Immediately following the event on 1/24 we're going to be doing a Pedalshift/Miles of Portraits meetup at a very close-by spot TBA. The event and meetup are both free to attend, but Miles of Portraits magazine will be available for purchase and so will adult beverages and food at the meetup locale. Come hang out at the first meetup of 2019!

The Interview

Aaron Flores and Guthrie Straw are the co=hosts of The Sprocket Podcast, a show about simple living, bicycling and a whole lot more. If you are in the 1% of listeners to this show that aren't aware of The Sprocket, please do yourself a favor and give them a listen. My 11th appearance was on episode 444 (the Syracusiness of that episode title makes me so very happy) and a rebroadcast of my first appearance which laid the foundation for Pedalshift is episode 445.

Big thanks to Aaron and Guthrie (and Brock who dropped in on Sprocket 444). Don't forget to check those calendars for January 22 and 24 in Tysons Corner, VA and Washington, DC for Miles of Portraits - would love to see you all there!

Happy Holidays and see you in the New Year!

Pedalshift Society

Quick wrapup here about supporting the show through Pedalshift Society. With listener support, we've expanded the show to weekly, added tour videos, moved the Tour Journals from pay to in-podcast and helped pay for improved equipment and all hosting fees. And its all thanks to the people you hear in the end credits. As we reset to a new year, why not add your name to the list? Five bucks, two bucks or even a buck a month helps keep things going, and you can cancel anytime. There's also annual and one-shot options too if you're not into the small, monthly thing. Added bonus, it's all working again if you've had trouble signing up! Check out pedalshift.net/society. On to the society!

Music

You've been hearing about Jason Kent and his music for many fine episodes. Their latest album may be their best yet. Go get it.
